A web project that makes sense? Let’s partner up.

You have the idea and you know your field. I bring my web expertise and my development skills, to build the project with you rather than for you. In return: shares in the company, a percentage of revenue, or a bit of both.

01 · The principle

Everyone brings what they do best

you.bring

The project

  • A relevant idea for the Web
  • Your knowledge of the subject and of your audience
  • The drive and the time to make it grow
josselyn.brings

The technology

  • More than 10 years of web expertise and development
  • WordPress, WooCommerce, custom development or SaaS
  • Project management, from the first screen to launch
together

A shared project

  • Clear goals and roles from the start
  • An involved partner, not just a contractor
  • Partnership terms written by the two of us
02 · Partnership options

Three ways to partner

01

Shares in the company

I join the capital of the company behind the project, and my technical work is part of my contribution. The shareholders’ agreement sets out how the shares are earned over time.

02

A percentage of revenue

No equity: a contract sets the share of revenue that comes back to me, its duration and how it is calculated.

03

A mixed deal

Part of the work is invoiced at the start, the rest is paid in shares or as a percentage. It is often the most balanced option when the project already has a small budget.

The option depends on the project and is negotiated between us. Nothing is set until it is written down.

03 · What I look for

Before partnering on a project

01

A founder who knows the field

You know the trade, the audience or the market, often from experience.

02

A real problem to solve

The project meets a need that already exists, for individuals or businesses.

03

Commitment on your side

Technology is not enough: someone has to carry the project in the field and give it time.

04

Early signs, if possible

A mock-up, a waiting list, interested customers: nothing is required, but anything that shows the project is wanted counts.

04 · How we move forward

Four steps to get started

step 01

You present the project

A few lines in the form below, no specification needed. If you wish, I sign a non-disclosure agreement from the first exchange.

step 02

We talk it over

A call or a video call: your project, your market, what each of us can bring. In France, Quebec or French Guiana.

step 03

We write the terms

Partnership option, roles, split: everything is written before we start, then reviewed by a lawyer or an accountant.

step 04

We build

I develop, you carry the project in the field, and we track the goals set at the start together.

What the written terms cover

  • Who does what: roles, time commitment, decisions
  • The split: shares, percentage or mixed deal
  • How shares are earned over time, if any
  • Who owns the code and the content
  • Project costs (hosting, licences, marketing) and who covers them
  • What happens if one of us stops
05 · Real examples

Easik, a product built on my know-how

I created Easik to track trips and calculate mileage allowances based on the official French scales. It is the same know-how I put at your service when we partner: from the idea to a product online.

Partnering with Fanny Cairon’s agency

Fanny Cairon runs a literary communication agency for independent authors: editing, coaching, layout, book promotion. We partnered to build two projects around books. She brings her knowledge of authors and publishing, I bring the technology and the development.

Mon site auteur

Websites designed for authors

Professional websites for authors and writers, with a one-off payment or an all-inclusive plan with hosting and maintenance. The agency supports the authors, I design and run their websites.

L’Explorateur littéraire

The media for book lovers

An online literary magazine in French: reading notes, authors’ voices, new writers, cultural explorations. I designed and built the website. I also handle its distribution and its advertising, placements and rotations included, and I advise Fanny on everything technical.

06 · Frequently asked questions

Before getting started

What kind of project interests me?

A relevant project on the Web, led by someone who knows their subject. The sector does not matter, as long as the project is innovative and solves a problem that exists.

I have no technical skills. Is that a problem?

No, it is actually the most common case. You bring the project and your field knowledge, I take care of the technical side.

How many shares or what percentage do you ask for?

It depends on the project: what each of us brings, the time involved, the available budget and the potential. We discuss it after the first exchange, and the split is negotiated between us.

I have no budget at all. Is that possible?

It is possible: we then look at a partnership in shares or as a percentage of revenue. The further along the project and the more concrete your commitment, the easier it is to partner without a budget.

Does my idea stay confidential?

Yes. I sign a non-disclosure agreement from the first exchange if you wish. In the form, a few lines are enough: the details can wait for the agreement.

Who owns the code?

It is written in the terms, before we start. With shares, the project’s code usually belongs to the company behind it. With a percentage, we specify what belongs to the project and what stays reusable, such as generic tools.

How much time do you give a project?

It is set in the written terms, based on the project’s needs and stages. I only commit to time I can actually give.

What if my project is not a fit?

I will tell you honestly. For a standard service (showcase site, online store or maintenance), Wycan, the studio I run with John, can take care of it.

07 · Pitch your project

Your project interests me.

A few lines are enough. I read every proposal and reply personally.

What happens next?
  1. I read your proposal and reply personally.
  2. If the project interests me, we set up a first exchange, after a non-disclosure agreement if you wish.
  3. We decide together whether to go further.

Present your project

Your project stays confidential: I sign a non-disclosure agreement from the first exchange if you wish.
